Let's talk about that gorgeous course for a minute. Picture yourself running along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk with the Atlantic Ocean practically high-fiving you the whole way. The weather? A perfect 70 degrees. (I know, I know – we're pretty spoiled down here in South Florida!) The sound of waves crashing against the shore creates this amazing natural soundtrack for runners as they make their way through the course.
But here's what makes this race really interesting – and I saw this firsthand while capturing the action. Unlike your typical point-A-to-point-B race, this one's got some exciting twists. Runners have to channel their inner ninja skills to navigate through beach-going pedestrians along the route. It's like a real-life video game where you're constantly adjusting your pace and path!
Speaking of excitement, can we talk about what happened out there? The race started with 224 runners, each looking focused on their own race. But something magical happened as they approached the finish line. What began as solo journeys transformed into spontaneous racing duels! I caught so many amazing moments of runners finding that extra burst of energy when they saw someone nearby, turning the final stretch into these incredible sprint finishes.
And you want to know the coolest part? Every stride these runners took helped support the NSU Sea Turtle Conservation Program. How awesome is it that you can work on your fitness while helping our shelled friends? Plus, our friends at LauderAle Brewery made sure everyone got hooked up with some sweet participant packages.
From behind my camera, I noticed something really special about this race. Sure, it's technically a 5K, but it's really more like an adventure. You've got the challenge of weaving through crowds, the inspiration of racing alongside others, and views that'll make you forget you're even exercising. The morning sun creating this gorgeous golden light on the water... well, let's just say it made my job as a photographer pretty amazing.

The course itself deserves another shoutout because it's seriously one of Florida's most scenic routes. Running along Charnow Park with the Broadwalk on one side and the beach on the other? That's the kind of distraction every runner needs when they're pushing through those challenging moments. The route might present its obstacles with the pedestrian traffic, but hey, that just adds to the adventure, right?
